DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
These positions provide a primary Agency role in supervising and supporting children and/or adults experiencing developmental disabilities. Areas of support may include daily living skills, supported employment, recreation, training programs, community outings and integration activities, and other activities which will assist client(s) in working toward increasing levels of independence. Provides client support and direct instruction as outlined in the Individual Service Plan (ISP); to meet the client’s goals and objectives. Provides client support in all areas of daily living including personal hygiene, financial management, household management, self medication, meal planning and preparation, employment support, social skill development, and recreation. Promotes the health and well-being of clients through the implementation of daily health and dental maintenance and prevention strategies. Transports clients to various appointments and activities. Communicates effectively with all members of the service delivery team including clients, parents, Agency staff, and other service agency representatives. Complete all required Agency paperwork and documentation including progress notes, ISP goals and interventions, etc. in a timely manner. Maintain a safe environment for clients at all times, taking into consideration their special needs; and be prepared to respond to an emergency situation, if necessary. Complies with all Agency policies and procedures, and ensures client confidentiality as prescribed by Agency Policy and various Federal and State Laws. Work may be performed at the REACH, Inc facility, in the client’s home, and at various sites throughout the community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum six months experience (paid or volunteer) providing direct patient/client care; OR an equivalent level of education or training which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential job functions. Early childhood development skills, desirable. A self-starter, who is conscientious, compassionate, patient, and understanding of the client’s health, safety, development, and enjoyment of life. Strong interpersonal and written communication skills. Excellent organization, documentation, and time management skills. Detail oriented, with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Effective problem solving skills, and the desire to function as a team member. Ability to assist clients in their daily activities, which may require occasional heavy lifting; and potential contact with blood borne pathogens.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum age 18*. High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. BA in related field preferred. TB clearance required. CPR and First Aid Certification is required within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Successful applicant will be required to undergo a successful DHSS criminal background and fingerprint check, prior to employment.
*Driving may be a requirement of this position. If driving is required, applicant must be at least 21 years of age, possess a current Alaska Driver’s License, have been a licensed driver for a minimum of three years, and provide Agency with proof of current Auto Insurance Coverage and successful State Motor Vehicle Driver’s History Report, prior to employment.
