This position provides aid in the support of individuals with developmental disabilities in the Art Studio. Areas of support include, but are not limited to, daily living skills, communication, socialization, community outings for the habilitation and inclusion of community integration activities. The successful applicant will be comfortable in the studio setting, have some familiarity with some art mediums, able to create a positive learning environment to accommodate a diverse group of consumers, exercises patience, understanding and concern for the client’s health, safety, development, and well-being. Art studio assistant are responsible for tracking and documenting progress on individual service plan goals. This position requires strong interpersonal and written communication skills, detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, effective problem-solving skill, and proficiency in the use of computers for word processing. May also provide support to Art Studio Program Assistant in supervision of gallery, events, and activities. Must be available evening and weekend hours.

QUALIFICATIONS: 2 years experience in social services preferred.  1 year experience in working with developmental disabilities and/or mental illness preferred. Familiarity with graphic and/or performing arts.

Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.  Associates or Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred. TB clearance required.

REQUIREMENTS: Must complete required CPR and First Aid courses within the first thirty (30) days of employment.  Selected applicant will be required to undergo a successful DHSS criminal background and fingerprint check, prior to employment.  Driving is a requirement of this position and applicant must be at least 21 years old,  possess a current Alaska Driver’s License, have been a licensed driver for at least three years, and provide Agency with proof of current Auto Insurance Coverage and an acceptable State Motor Vehicle “Full History” Driver’s Report, prior to employment.

Applicant must have ability to perform sedentary work. Visual acuity necessary to utilize a computer monitor throughout the course of a normal workday. Ability to perform repetitive keyboarding activities and operate general office equipment. Ability to communicate verbally, both in person and over the telephone.  Ability to assist consumers in bathroom.  May require occasional heavy lifting.  Occasionally will come in contact with blood borne pathogens
