Since its inception over 30 years ago, REACH has remained devoted to its mission:
“REACH, Inc. honors and respects the people we serve by promoting choice and well-being through advocacy and services.”
REACH offers programs that provide housing, independent living, respite for caregivers, grants, job coaching and skill development, employment, developmental screenings and assessments, education, information and referrals to children and adults with developmental delays or disabilities throughout the northern part of Southeast Alaska.
REACH is Juneau’s 4th largest private employer with 300 employees serving over 400 individuals and families. In addition to Juneau, REACH has an officesin Haines and staff in Petersburg. From these locations, services are available to residents of Skagway, Hoonah, Wrangell, Yakutat, and other communities.
REACH provides services through hands-on assistance, by responding promptly to emerging issues, and by following the core values of

REACH’s vision is that every individual and family affected by a developmental disability in the northern part of Southeast Alaska has access to the information, advocacy, and skills they need to participate as active citizens and members of their community. Staff work to make the agency’s mission and values come alive through a set of interwoven service principles:
REACH Service Principles
- Communication – REACH provides internal structures that promote communication in an open, honest, respectful and clear manner that is responsive to client and family needs.
- Choice – REACH staff promote safe and healthy choices while honoring and respecting each client’s and family’s right to make their own.
- Relationships – REACH staff strive to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with clients, families and community members based on mutual trust and respect.
- Accountability – REACH promotes the integrity of staff accountability by defining job responsibilities, providing orientation, ongoing support and supervision, and regular performance reviews. In order to provide quality services, REACH strives to keep staff current through continuing education.
- Family – REACH understands the family is the constant in a client’s life. Staff strive to develop understanding of the client’s history, values and culture. Every effort is made to include family in all aspects of planning and implementation of services. Every family is unique and consists of individuals that the client identifies.
- Team – REACH facilitates mutually agreed upon goals and services with the client and family through advocacy, dignity, and respect. A team leader, determined by REACH with client and family input, is the primary contact for the client and family. The team consists of a network of individuals who understand and support the client.
